By downloading or using the Stakeout application ("App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App. These Terms constitute a binding legal agreement between you and Loneli Apps ("we", "us", "our"), a company registered in France.
You must be at least 18 years old to use Stakeout. By using the App, you confirm that you are 18 or older. We reserve the right to terminate your account if we have reason to believe you are underage. Stakeout is not available to users in jurisdictions where financial penalties for self-set goals are prohibited by law. It is your responsibility to ensure compliance with local laws.
Stakeout is a personal accountability tool. You voluntarily set a goal, attach a financial stake, and agree that the stake will be charged to your card if you fail to complete the goal and provide acceptable proof. This is not gambling — you are setting self-imposed consequences for failing to meet goals you choose freely. The outcome depends entirely on your own actions, not chance.
When you create a goal, you agree that your payment card will be charged the staked amount if you fail the goal, and that stakes are final once a goal is marked failed. We do not refund forfeited stakes except in the case of a successful dispute (see Section 6). Minimum stake amount is $5 USD. We reserve the right to set maximum limits at any time. A STUDY SESSION is FAILED when any of the following happens: — You close or leave the app while the session is running (a short grace period applies for accidental exits). — You forfeit the session using the forfeit button. — You pause more times than the breaks you selected, or never resume a paused session before its deadline. — The deadline passes before the session is completed. — Your photo evidence is rejected on review (see Section 5): the camera did not capture you visibly working for the duration of the session, the evidence does not match the goal you described, the camera was covered, pointed away, or in the dark, or the footage shows someone else in your place. A SCREEN TIME BLOCK is FAILED when: — You leave the app or use another app for longer than the grace period while the block is running. — You forfeit the block, or abandon it before the timer ends. A session is PASSED only after our review team confirms your evidence. Until then it is marked "pending review" and no charge is made unless the evidence is rejected.
To pass a goal, you must submit photo proof captured by the in-app camera during your session. Screenshots, gallery images, or photos taken outside the app are not accepted. The app captures snapshots at random intervals during study sessions; you consent to this capture when you start a session. Our review team makes the final determination on whether proof is valid — evidence must clearly show you working on the goal you described, for the duration you committed to. Attempts to manipulate, fake, or exploit the proof system may result in permanent account suspension. EVIDENCE PRIVACY — your photos are seen by NOBODY except the Loneli review team: — Evidence is stored in a private, access-controlled bucket. It is never public and there are no public links. — Only you and the Loneli review team can view your evidence. No other users, no advertisers, no data brokers, no third parties — ever. — Evidence is used solely to verify your session and to resolve disputes. It is never used for marketing, training AI models, or any other purpose. — Evidence is not sold, shared, or transferred to anyone. Our infrastructure provider (Supabase) hosts encrypted storage but does not access your content, as described in our Privacy Policy. — You may request deletion of your evidence at any time by deleting your account, subject to a short retention window for open disputes.
If you believe a goal was incorrectly marked as failed due to a technical error or circumstances outside your control, you may file a dispute through the Help & Disputes section of the App within 7 days of the failure. We review all disputes manually. Approving a dispute is at our sole discretion. We do not guarantee refunds. Disputes filed in bad faith may result in account suspension.
Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. By adding a payment method, you authorize us to charge your card for any forfeited stakes. Your card details are handled exclusively by Stripe and are never stored on our servers. By using Stakeout, you also agree to Stripe's Terms of Service. All amounts are in USD. Currency conversion fees, if any, are your responsibility.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these Terms, fraudulent activity, chargebacks filed without legitimate dispute, or any conduct we deem harmful to the platform or other users. Outstanding staked amounts remain due upon termination.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Loneli Apps shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the total amount of stakes you have paid in the 90 days preceding the claim. We are not responsible for technical failures, network outages, or third-party service interruptions that affect goal completion.
We may update these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes via the App or email. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of France. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of France. If you are a consumer in the EU, you may also benefit from mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.
